The Harvest Picnic, in its fifth year, celebrates music, the Ontario Greenbelt and local farmers. Every year musicians, community members, farmers and activists gather at Christie Lake Conservation area to put on a killer show and bring attention to the value of the Greenbelt.
What do you get when you put one innovative BC artist, a passionate curator, fifty musicians, and fifty porters, sound techs and camera operators on a melting glacier slated for controversial development as a four-season ski resort?
Director Carol Ann Weaver organized Sound in the Land 2014 – Music and the Environment with a simple purpose: “We hope to listen to the earth differently.” And so for three days people from around the world came together to listen to the Earth.
Long before going green became a trend, luthiers were passionate seekers of prized pieces of reclaimed wood. A fallen tree in the forest was viewed as a creative opportunity and specific species of wood were sought out with the belief that they held magical tonal qualities within their very DNA.

WHEN BJÖRK CRITICIZED Magma Energy Corp. chairman and CEO Ross Beaty in an interview with Maclean’s in November 2010, the Icelandic pop singer couldn’t have struck a deeper chord. Maclean’s subsequently pulled the interview from the internet after Magma threatened the Canadian magazine with a libel suit.
