The Paris climate talks have come to an end, and a historic agreement has been reached. In Canada, environmentalists have breathed a deep sigh of relief as the federal and provincial governments have signalled their plans to collaborate on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The first week of climate negotiations has come and passed and the world is looking to Paris for a climate consensus. Although things are moving along, a lot will need to happen in the coming week for COP21 to be considered successful.
Canada’s reputation at global climate talks has gone downhill over the last decade, and we have a lot of work to do in order to repair that. Last July, US environmental activist and founder of 350.org, Bill McKibben referred to Canada as a “destructive and dangerous force upon the planet.”
COP21 is expected to attract over 50,000 participants. In addition to the Parties, thousands of non-government and inter-government organizations will attend, each representing various interests, from indigenous peoples to trade unions to business.

Last week, Planet in Focus wrapped their five-days of 60 films, from 15 countries, attended by 30 international and Canadian filmmakers.
